This eye pillow was stitched with love in the United Kingdom using mostly vintage fabric and deadstock thread, meaning it’s as light on resources as possible. Filled with flaxseed for a gentle weighted effect, the inner pillows are removable, so you can change the scent as often as your mood.

The use of a weighted eye pillow during relaxation can have a powerful effect. Light pressure on the eyes lowers your heart rate, by eliciting the oculocardiac reflex. It also stimulates the vagus nerve, one of twelve cranial nerves that originate in the brain, travel down the back of the neck into the chest and heart, and then move down into the abdomen and digestive tract.

The vagus nerve has an extensive role: it regulates heart rate and digestion, and it’s the primary medium through which our ‘belly brain’ regulates mood. It’s the main communicator to our rest-and-digest system, which helps us to relax more deeply. It also elicits our tend-and-befriend system, enabling us to reach out and connect with others. This is a critical factor in long-term stress resilience and, research shows, in happiness.

Eye pillows can be used to help you fall asleep too; place one over your eyes or forehead when you lay down, or try using one anytime you feel anxious, depressed, or stressed for a pick-me-up or to ground yourself.

The herbs and/or spices you choose to add to your weighted eye pillow also have an effect. You can choose from:

  • Lavender – believed to help as a sedative, also for stress, PMT and headaches
  • Lemongrass – believed to help as a sedative, an anti-oxidant and as an antidepressant
  • Cardamom & black pepper – cardamom is believed to help with fatigue and black pepper with circulation and the immune system
  • Orange & vanilla – vanilla is believed to be restorative and orange can have a sedative and anti-inflammatory effect
  • Chamomile, rose and wormwood – together believed to help with stress, tension, insomnia, circulation, headache and digestion
  • Pumpkin spice (cloves, black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon & ginger) – a powerful blend believed to help with digestion, fatigue, circulation, stiffness, stress and the immune system
  • Unscented (flaxseed only) – for those who are sensitive to scent

Care & use of your inner pillow: the contents of your inner eye pillow are entirely natural, so over time the scent will fade and there may be some staining where the contents rub against the fabric. It shouldn’t be washed, instead you can refresh it by airing, then placing on a warm radiator. Don’t use directly on your skin, always use the case.

Care of your eye pillow case: The outer case is washable at 30 degrees on a gentle machine cycle or even better, by hand. It can be ironed on a low heat if you wish.

If you would like a name/short message embroidering onto the case, please leave a note in the ‘personal message’ section and the colour thread you’d like. If the eye pillow is a gift you can also add a message here to be included on a compliments card. All eye pillows are sent by complimentary 1st class Royal Mail post.

Please note:

  • All compliments card messages are hand written, so please keep them to a reasonable length so that they fit on the card/in lay card.
  • Care instructions will be included with your weighted eye pillow.
  • If you pay by Paypal, your PayPal email receipt will show the delivery address as the billing address. My system overrides this, so if you wish your order to be delivered to someone else and have completed the address correctly on my site, please ignore the PayPal receipt.
